1. The name for a baby hedgehog is a hoglet.

2. They have poor eyesight, but excellent senses for smell and hearing.

3. Hedgehogs got their name through their foraging habits (bc they move through the hedges for worms and insects, and they make this piggy grunting noise. hedge-hog. see? hahaha)

4. Each hedgie has around 5000 spines, each of which lasts about a year. 

5. Hedgehogs are known as the gardener's friend. 

6. The most common domesticated hedgie is the African pygmy hedgehog. 

7. It is illegal to own a hedgehog in Pennsylvania. (I feel sorry for them for not being able to own these little fellas)

8. Hedgehogs are NOT affected by adder venom. 

9. The first hedgehog was domesticated in 4 B.C.

10. They're well-respresented in literature. (Shakespeare mentions hedgies in "Tempest" and "Midsummer Night's Dream")

11. Hedgehogs are lactose intolerant. 

12. A hedgehog can run over 6 ft per second.

13. They love to dance.

14. They love to play with tissue rolls.

15. A hedgie taking a bath is the cutest thing known to man.
